Should… but instead

I should have baked a layer cake this weekend. I bought enough bananas that Hubster said it looked like we have a legion of toddlers at home. Just in case you need that number for reference, it’s 17. 17 bananas = legion of toddlers.

I should have baked because it was our last weekend off before fall wedding season kicks into high gear. But instead I helped Hubster with the trailer, which involved sanding all of the walls (We have walls! Wee! Yeah, I know the blog post from Friday made you believe otherwise. Trailer blogs = way behind real life), cabinets and ceiling for painting, wiping them down and proceeding to prime the inside of the cabinets. Painting the inside of cabinets = a wretched job. I alternated between hating the task, wondering if my right hand would permanently cramp so I would need to go out in public forever clutching a paint brush a la Bob Dole, and appreciating the fact that Hubster is the “edger” in our house. I’m the “roller.” Rolling is infinitely more rewarding (and totally counts as a workout).

Right now I should be working (because that’s what people do at an office). But instead I’m taking a break, enjoying a faux mocha (Penzey’s hot cocoa mix + break room coffee) and checking out the HomeGoods StyleScope. It seems like the right kind of distraction for a Monday afternoon. Plus Young House Love is giving away a $500 gift card to HomeGoods!

So here’s what I got: Modern Metro with a touch of Urban Funk.

Uh, yeah, they hit the nail on the head.

Let’s take a look at their description: Modern Metro adopts this cool, sleek minimalism (YES) to their loft-like look (YES). The one right piece at the right price trumps a large assembly of objects (YES). Instead, they enjoy a perfectly edited collection in a more masculine palette of cool greys (HECK YES) and deep blacks with the occasional pop of color (Seriously did they somehow sneak into our condo?).

This also reminds me that I’ve been wanting to share more personal stuff mixed in with food stuff and a condo tour may be in order.

So that’s what I’m doing.

Anyone else avoiding their “shoulds” with some fun Internet diversions? Also, I’m curious whether you have designated painting duties in your house? This cabinet painting foray has shown me that I’m a roller for life!

I totally agree that you should have baked another layer cake this weekend, but I am also the roller and it is way more satisfying. It also has a much higher margin for error, which is really why I am the roller.

Haha I was looking at that yesterday too. I got Urban Funk with a touch of Boho which makes me think I have some work to do at my house … spot on what I like, just not what I own. :)

I think the cake was just deferred to this weekend so swing by my desk on Monday :)
