Giving Thanks

I was going to tell you about a pot pie you can make with leftover turkey, but I think that can wait a day or two because as I was driving home today I had an overwhelming sense of how good my life is and how thankful I am for it.

Honestly, it’s been a whirlwind of a year. If you’ve seen me in person and asked something to the effect of  “How are you liking St. Louis” I probably had a dumbfounded look before I could muster a courtesy answer of “We really like it.” It’s not that I lied, it’s just it hasn’t really sunk in. Thinking back through the year I can see why.

In fact at this time last year we still owned a house in Kansas City. Wow! It’s crazy to think that. We accepted an offer on it February, closed and moved all of our stuff into my parent’s house in March, moved to our condo in April. Then wedding season one hit. I started this blog somewhere along the way. We made it through summer by putting some finishing touches on our condo. The fall was such a blur I could barely tell you what happened and in what order.

There were a lot of moments in there where all I wanted as a day off or a glass of wine. But, in this moment of really pondering everything, I’m just happy and thankful (and maybe slightly exhausted).

So here’s what I’m thankful for right now:

Hubster – Oh, how I love that man and shudder to think what my life would be like without him. I certainly wouldn’t be taking pictures or even talking to right now because I’m really not interested in cooking for just me.

Our families – We’ve had immense support throughout this move and I’d be remiss (great word, by the way) if I didn’t give a special shout out to my parents. They literally opened their home for us, which was a key to being able to make this transition. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to thank them enough, but I’ll keep trying.

Our photography clients – We have the most amazing clients. They inspire us to work hard and create the best art we can on their behalf. They welcome us into their lives and we’re very blessed to share some of their happiest days alongside them. Plus they occasionally treat us with bottles of wine (which earns bonus points in our book).

My 9-to-5 job – I know I can get down on it sometimes, but I’m truly thankful that I found a position at such a great company. The people I work with are amazing and I’m already finding my new role challenging and rewarding.

You – Yep, you. I know you’re out there, reading and pulling recipes. You don’t always comment on the blog, but every time you mention the blog in an email or in person I geek out a little bit inside. Thanks for stopping by to see what’s coming out of my kitchen and for the encouragement to keep going.

I’m sure there are lots of other things I could list here, but all of that springs to mind first. Before I get any mushier, I should probably sign off and get back in the kitchen. That cornbread stuffing isn’t going to make itself ;)
